What do midwest motorcyclists do for fun during the winter? Well I for one play with trains! I'm a member of a Wisconsin Garden Railway Club and we take turns running our trains in the Mitchell Park Domes. On a cold Sunday morning, Don and I left the comfort of our northwest suburban homes and set out for Milwaukee. After a two hour ride, we arrived, parked in the garage of the show dome and unpacked. The public enters at nine and by ten we had our trains setup and fully running. Various theme oriented vingettes encompassed the layout. About 800 people usually attend on a given Sunday. Even though a 20 degee below wind chill howled around the three domes, it was a toasty 70 degrees in the show dome (commonly known as the floral dome). The remaining two domes are Arid and Tropical. Many families and couples spend several hours in this environment. Refreshments are sold (even beer!-that's Milwaukee for you!) We had a terrific time! This place is so beautiful, it's like a bit of heaven on earth!
The event was peppered with Green Bay Packer Fans who were preparing for the NFC Championship Game later that day. We stayed until 4:00 P.M. and started our trip home to the northwest suburbs of Chicago. We also wanted to see the game.
I really enjoy visiting Wisconsin. I'm an avid Brewers Fan and attend at least four games a year. When I retire, it would be nice to live just north of Milwaukee, then it wouldn't be too far to Door County!
